Spectators heading to ‘Balloons Over Vermilion’ today (Friday, July 13, 2018) and Saturday will find much more than the balloons. There is a Kid Zone with lots of activities for kids, live music, a sand volleyball tournament and even a balloon school where you can learn about hot air ballooning. Tethered rides will also be available, and one of the balloons being used for those rides is accessible for those with disabilities.
Dean Carlton, one of the hot air balloon pilots from Danville, told VermilionCountyFirst.com News the pilots do not just jump into their baskets and go….
Another local pilot, Larry Owen, notes the pilots have a lot of respect for area farmers as they decide where to land….
Flights are scheduled this evening (Friday, July 13th)….Saturday morning and again Saturday evening. All flights are depending on weather conditions.
And if you are headed to the Vermilion Regional Airport you will find they are ready for the expected hot weather. There are two huge cooling tents on the grounds this year, and, of course, lots of vendors offering cold drinks.
For more on the event visit balloonsoververmilion.com. The gates open today at 3:00 p.m. and you can catch a free shuttle bus ride to the event at the Lowe’s or Wal Mart parking lots in Danville. Or for a $5 parking charge you can park at the Vermilion Regional Airport grounds.
