The third annual ‘Balloons Over Vermilion’ opens today at the Vermilion Regional Airport. Nearly 35 hot air balloons are set to fly out of the airport this evening (July 13, 2018) weather permitting. And the flight will be followed by a Balloon Glow – then something new this year, a Laser Light Show. The laser light show is being performed by the same company that stages a spectacular show at the world’s largest hot air ballooning event in Albuqueerque, New Mexico.
Last night, a dozen pilots participated in the Danville Boat Club’s Balloon Splash-n-Dash Party. Local pilot Larry Owen says he enjoys flying over Lake Vermilion….

Hundreds of people were on hand for Thursday evening’s ‘Splash-n-Dash’ at the Boat Club, while others watched from the dozens of boats that dotted Lake Vermilion.
