The Vermilion Regional Airport has a new manager. Members of the Airport Authority Board on Tuesday appointed Mike Vandeboncoeur to take over the duties. He will fill the slot left vacant when former airport manager Mike Potter resigned in June.
Vandeboncoeur is very familiar with the airport’s operations. He has been the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) at the airport for over 20 years, and also serves as manager of Midwest Aero. It is an award-winning aircraft restoration company.
‘’It is all rather sudden and really wasn’t on the radar,’’ said the new airport manager. ‘’It’s a good fit, though,’’ he added. Vandeboncoeur told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that he has ‘’been an airport brat since I was a kid in high school.’’ Vandeboncoeur added it is fairly common for Fixed Base Operators to also be given airport management duties.
‘’He’s a great guy,’’ said Airport Commissioner Steve Foster about the selection of Vandeboncoeur to fill the position. Foster says the board had to name a director in order to meet FAA regulations.
The board also approved a separation agreement with Potter during Tuesday’s meeting.
