Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden has released the name of the victim in a Danville homicide. She says the man found dead in a residence on the city’s east side is 26-year-old Corey L. Jackson II of Danville. Public Safety Director Larry Thomason told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that police were called to a home in the 900 block of Koehn Drive about 11:30 Saturday morning (July 21, 2018) after some people went to the residence and noticed a man lying on the floor who was deceased. Thomason says at this time police are not releasing information regarding how the man apparently died because the cause of death remains under investigation. But he adds police are handling the death as a homicide. An autopsy was scheduled Saturday.
Director Thomason adds officers from the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit are also assisting in the investigation.
Police processed the crime scene and talked to neighbors Saturday afternoon as they attempted to gather evidence. A large crowd of family members and friends gathered outside the home.

Danville is certainly not the only city that has been dealing with a string of homicides this year. And, in fact, a 27-year-old Champaign man was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana Saturday morning from a shooting that occurred in the 1900 block of Florida Avenue in Urbana. The victim is Martez Taylor, who was pronounced dead in the Carle Hospital Emergency Department at 1:18 a.m.
And Urbana Police are also investigating a Friday night incident in which a 14-year-old male was shot in the back. Initial police reports say the boy was riding on the handlebars of a bicycle that another juvenile was peddling when shots rang out in the 1300 block of Beech Street in Urbana. The 14-year-old was hospitalized and at last report was said to be in critical condition.
Police are continuing to investigate these incidents in both Danville and Urbana. Anyone who has information that might help in these investigations is asked to call Danville Police (in the case of the Danville homicide) or call Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS. Or in the case of the shootings in Urbana, call Urbana Police or Champaign County Crime Stoppers (217) 373-TIPS if you have information that might help in the investigations.
