Tilton Police are looking for two Danville residents for questioning in a high speed chase and crash late Wednesday (August 1st, 2018). David Cornett, the Tilton Police Chief, told VermilionCountyFirst.com News the chase began when an officer spotted a car that was believed to be stolen.
As the Tilton officer was turning around at 5th and G Streets, Cornett says the vehicle fled. Chief Cornett says the Tilton officer lost site of the vehicle in the Grape Creek area (southeast of Danville), but it was later found crashed and abandoned along Perrysville Road.
A witness told police that they saw a male and a female swimming across a pond near the crash site. But Tilton and Westville Police and Vermilion County Sheriff’s deputies were unable to locate the suspects.
Chief Cornett says information left in the vehicle, though, allowed police to identify a male and female from Danville. And he says police are seeking that couple for questioning in connection with the incident.
The car had been reported stolen from J. P. Autos in Danville on July 23rd.
