OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville is the recipient of a Legacy Gift that is allowing for upgrades to equipment in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Over the past 11 years Mahlon White, a lifelong farmer in the Alvin area, has donated nearly $300-thousand dollars to the Danville hospital.
‘’The generosity of Mr. White over the years has led to an advance in life-saving medical technology in the ICU of our Medical Center in such a manner that many lives have been saved,’’ says Dr. Jared Rogers, President of OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center. ‘’His commitment to assisting in making care better for our patients is deeply touching,’’ added Rogers.
The recent gift and proceeds from the 2018 Festival of Trees and the Vermilion HealthCare Foundation allocation will be used to purchase 3-D Mammography and Bone Density equipment.
Dr. Jo-Mel Labayog, Oncologist at The Bobette Steely Hegeler Cancer Care Center, is excited about having 3-D mammography exams available in Danville. ‘’Mammograms are the single best tool to find breast cancer at its earliest stage,’’ said Dr. Labayog. ‘’With the development of 3-D mammography, early detection just became better,’’ he added.
Mahlon White had earlier made a gift to OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center when his wife died which allowed for the purchase of new cardiac heart monitors for the Intensive Care Unit. He later donated additional money to off-set the cost of defibrillators for the Intensive Care Unit.
