Danville Police are probing the shooting of a 14-year-old boy late Saturday night (September 8th, 2018). Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says the shooting occurred in the area of Griffin and Fairchild Street. Thomason says police received a call at about midnight ‘’and found a 14-year-old who said he was walking on Griffin Street when someone came up from behind and shot him. He told police he saw two people running northeasterly after being shot,’’ added Thomason.
The victim was transported to a Champaign-Urbana hospital where he underwent surgery. Police are not releasing other information at this time. Anyone who has information that might help solve this crime is asked to call Danville Police or call Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 217-446-TIPS.
The location where the shooting occurred is near Danville’s Garfield Park.
Relatives of the victim said on social media that the teen is a very good student who has been active in sports. His name has not been released.
