Only thirty-five people turned out last night (Monday) for a public forum on the proposal to change Danville to a city manager form of government. Much of the discussion focused on the multi-million dollar deficit the city is facing in its police and fire pension funds.
Alderman Rickey Williams Jr. noted that to say nothing is being done to fill the gap is misleading….
The ‘Scott’ that Williams was referring to is Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer.
Doug Ahrens is a leader of the group Moving Danville Forward which favors the government change and sponsored the forum. He says if you talk to city managers in other cities, you would learn how they are meeting their pension needs….
Another forum on Thursday is being hosted by some local aldermen who oppose plans to change Danville’s form of government. It is for residents of wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 which will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Community Church of God at 535 South Bowman Avenue.
