Danville District 118 School Board members have approved a new $78.9 million dollar budget. Board members were told last night that expenditures will be running about $700-thousand dollars more than the current fiscal year.
Part of the funds will go toward restroom improvements at Danville High School. There has been some vandalism in restrooms, and Superintendent Alicia Geddis says there will be more monitoring in restrooms to avoid future problems.
District 118 Board members also heard a committee’s recommendations on possible changes and an expansion of alternative education programs.
Tracy Cherry, the principal of Kenneth D. Bailey Academy, says the new proposal involves a tiered system to ensure the success and safety of all students. Cherry noted that many people think Kenneth D. Bailey Academy is where the ‘bad kids’ go, but she says they are working to dispel that myth.
And board members also learned last night that a budget line item that would have paid for the demolition of Cannon School has been removed from the budget. School Board President Bill Dobbles says the demolition is something that may happen at some point, but he says there has been no board decision to demolish it.
