It looked real….but it was ONLY A DRILL as teachers and administrators in the Westville Unit 2 School District were trained on what to do in the event an active shooter enters their school. Although it was only a drill, Westville Police Sergeant Justin Varvel thinks it is some valuable training….
In addition to the live drill regarding an intruder, Sergeant Varvel says the teachers also received some first aid training….
The teachers were learning skills Friday (October 5, 2018) they hope will never be needed. Students were not in the buildings as the drills occurred. They are on a long weekend break.
In addition to Westville Police and Vermilion County Sheriff’s Deputies, others involved in the drills included Westville Firefighters, Carle Arrow Ambulance and the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency.
