Some of the signs that have been placed in yards leading up to next month’s election in Danville are now missing. Danville City Alderman Lloyd Randle says that is particularly the case of signs urging citizens to vote ‘no’ on the proposal to change to the city manager form of government.
Randle is among those who feel the current form of government should remain intact. A group called ‘Moving Danville Forward’ hopes citizens will vote in favor of the change. And Pat O’Shaughnessy of Moving Danville Forward says he has ”been involved in enough campaigns to know signs are removed for several reasons, but theft by the opponent is rarely one of them, and certainly not in this case.” O’Shaughnessy added he has no doubt that some of his group’s signs have disappeared as well.
No matter how you feel on the city manager form of government, Randle says no one should be messing with the signs. He notes money was spent purchasing them and stealing or damaging them is a violation of civil rights. Anyone caught stealing or damaging political signs can be charged with a misdemeanor.
