The mystery surrounding the disappearance of some political signs in Danville has been partially resolved. Danville Senior Planner Tyson Terhune says if signs are placed in the city right-of-way they will be removed because they violate city ordinances.
Although that might explain what has happened to some signs, others may have been taken by somebody else according to Terhune.
Danville Alderman Lloyd Randle says signs that urge citizens to vote ‘’No’’ on the proposed change to the city manager form of government are ones that seem to be targeted. Randle is among those who have openly said they want to keep Danville’s current form of government intact.
Pat O’Shaughnessy is a leader of the group Moving Danville Forward – which favors a city manager. O’Shaughnessy says he has ‘’been involved in enough campaigns to know signs are removed for several reasons, but theft by the opponent is rarely one of them, and certainly not in this case.’’ O’Shaughnessy adds he has no doubt that some of his group’s signs have disappeared as well.
No matter how you feel on the city manager form of government, Randle says no one should be messing with the signs. Anyone caught stealing or damaging them can be charged with a misdemeanor.
