Danville District 118 School Board members hope a vote last night (Wednesday, October 24, 2018) will help attract substitute staff members. The board agreed to raise the pay for substitute teachers from $95 to $125 a day. The pay for District 118 retired substitute teachers will rise from $115 a day to $135.
The wage package approved by the Board of Education at Wednesday evening’s meeting also included more money for substitute teaching assistants…who are going from $65 to $85 a day, and substitute secretaries whose new rate will be $85 a day, a ten-dollar a day boost.
The raises are effective immediately. It is projected the additional annual cost to the school district to implement the raises is just over $52,300.
The $125 a day rate for a substitute teacher in Danville District 118 compares to $100 in Champaign, $90 to $100 in the Georgetown-Ridge Farm Schools, $100 in Westville, and $110 to $125 in the Urbana School District. Some school districts offer additional incentives to try to attract substitute teachers and secretaries.
