A Danville businessman says he is joining the field of candidates seeking to be the city’s mayor. Frank Wright, who owns Wright’s Heating and Air, says it has been a dream of his to be mayor. Wright says when his wife died he was going to drop his quest to be mayor, but his 16 and 17-year-old children convinced him to go ahead and follow his dream.
Wright says his first priority for the city is fiscal responsibility. He noted he has not seen a set of goals from anyone for years. ‘’The reckless spending just cannot continue,’’ said Wright. And Wright says the second thing he wants to focus on is curing Danville’s crime problem. He says crime is embedded in the community and he wants to get the resources in place to address it.
The 48-year-old Wright was born and raised in Danville. In addition to his business he also has worked as a part-time instructor at Danville Area Community College. He also previously served as chairman of the Vermilion County Democratic Party.
Although only two candidates have filed so far to run for mayor, it is looking more likely that there will need to be a City Primary Election in February. It is because at least five people are expected to file candidacy petitions for mayor.
So far only incumbent Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. and Donald Crews have filed their petitions.
