Some of Vermilion County’s large employers are turning to social media and other means as they look for new employees.
Flex-n-Gate Plastics in Danville is holding an Open Interview Job Fair on Wednesday (November 28, 2018) at the David S. Palmer Arena (shown in photo). It runs from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. And Auto Zone has scheduled a hiring event for Wednesday, December 19th from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Bremer Conference Center at Danville Area Community College.
Vicki Haugen, President of Vermilion Advantage, says these companies and others are offering some good jobs….
”You know Flex-n-Gate and Dawson Health Care and so many of them – Auto Zone – are having their own individual fairs now at hotels, trying to attract people. These are good jobs. You know these are jobs that start 12, 15, 16 dollars an hour (with) full benefits after 30 to 60 days. And the fact that our employers are really having to struggle and reach out to try to fill these jobs – people don’t understand the importance of that to economic development.”
And Haugen notes the outlook for more jobs in our area is very bright….
”You know we do our economic outlook every quarter. The end of the third quarter I had 100-percent looking at ‘steady to rapid growth’ in the first quarter of 2019 – and no lay-offs. So everything is very, very positive – we’ve just got to fill these jobs. And, quite honestly, we’re going to reach a point where I don’t care how far out we have to reach beyond Vermilion County to do it – we will do it. You know, we’ve got to keep these employers strong, and these are great career opportunities,” added Haugen.
Haugen also noted that as these companies look for new employees her office is involved in discussions with some new companies that are considering locating here.
