The Danville Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is meeting Wednesday (December 5th) and is being asked by Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. to appoint eight new probationary firefighters. The Mayor is also requesting the Board appoint a new probationary police officer from the current eligibility list.
Six of the new firefighters are being appointed with funds provided by a federal SAFER grant. The other two are being appointed to fill recent vacancies on the fire department.
Danville Human Resources Administrator Bill Westphal says all of the appointments would be contingent upon passing the necessary physical and psychological exams. He also noted that some of the appointees may have already attended the University of Illinois Academy for training.
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is scheduled to meet at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5th. The meeting will be held in the Mayor’s Conference Room, on the 2nd floor of the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building.
