An 18-year-old Danville man is facing preliminary charges of involuntary manslaughter in connection with a fatal weekend shooting.
Chief Vermilion County Sheriff’s Investigator Michael Hartshorn says the suspect was also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, but has been released from custody after posting 10-percent of a $250-thousand dollar bond on Sunday (December 9, 2018).
Hartshorn told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that the victim is a 19-year-old who is also from Danville. He was pronounced dead at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville after he was driven there in a private vehicle shortly before 2:00 a.m. Saturday.
Investigator Hartshorn adds the preliminary investigation indicates that the two young men were friends and had been handling a gun in a home in the 800 block of Warrington Avenue.
Names of the victim and suspect have not been released yet. The Vermilion County Coroner’s Office is investigating the death along with the Sheriff’s Department.
