Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy says ‘’everything is continuing to be reviewed’’ regarding a December 15th shooting in which a Danville woman has died. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup says 29-year-old Marlene Brown died at 12:32 a.m. Tuesday (December 25, 2018) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Danville Police arrested 26-year-old Bryant Marshall of Danville in connection with the shooting. Police say Marshall flagged them down as they were responding to the scene and told officers he was the person they wanted. Police found Brown lying wounded in the 300 block of North Washington Street nearby.
Authorities had said earlier that the shooting apparently occurred during a domestic dispute. But Brown’s sister, Katherline Smith, said the victim had broken off a relationship with Marshall. Smith claims Marshall was ‘’obsessed’’ with her sister.
Marshall continues to be held at the Public Safety Building in Danville after being charged on December 17th with four counts of attempted first-degree murder and four of aggravated battery with a firearm. His bond was set at $2-million dollars. On Wednesday, Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said everything in the case is continuing to be reviewed before a decision is made on whether additional charges will be filed.
Police say Marlene Brown’s death is the 12th homicide in Danville this year.
