The Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending that special use permits for three proposed solar gardens be rejected.

Some commission members said they feel there are other locations available that would be a better location after they heard complaints from some neighbors who said they do not want it near their homes. Danville’s Community Development Department had recommended the special use permits be approved after finding the proposed change would not adversely affect the general welfare, public safety or property values in the vicinity.
Novel Energy Solutions of West Saint Paul, Minnesota is proposing erecting two 2-megawatt community solar gardens and a 1-megawatt solar garden along Old Ottawa Road, west of Danville. Although the Commission voted to recommend the special use permits for the project be rejected, Edgar Lara, representing the company, noted….

Lara said that if any of the three proposed solar gardens are developed, local Ameren customers would be able to apply for a temporary 10-percent discount on their power bill. But a petition submitted to the commission contained the names of 63 people saying they oppose the proposed solar gardens.
