The Housing Authority of Danville – through the creation of a non-profit – is exploring the possibility of $15-million dollars in new housing in Danville’s downtown area. Jaclyn Vinson, Executive Director of the Housing Authority, says several sites are being explored….

Vinson also noted the new units would not be for low income individuals or families…
Vinson is optimistic that the Illinois Housing Development Authority will agree to provide tax credits for the project. She says those credits would help the non-profit agency partner afford to construct the units.
In this case the non-profit consists of the same people who serve on the board for the Housing Authority of Danville. Word is expected by summer on whether the tax credits will be authorized by the Illinois Housing Development Authority. Meanwhile the Housing Authority Board has already acquired two vacant lots in the unit block of Hazel Street – directly south of the Richard Brazda Bus Terminal – in downtown Danville. And other sites are also being considered, including the spot where the old Danville City Hall was located, just north of the Danville Public Library.
