A candidate for the Danville City Council clashed verbally with acting Mayor Rickey Williams during a committee meeting Tuesday night.
Jerry Hawker said he had conducted some research and learned the city was late in requesting reimbursement from the state for $250,000 spent on demolishing some structures. And therefore, the city was not going to get the money, said Hawker. Hawker added the problem occurred before Williams became acting mayor…but added he is sure the mayor knew about it. The Mayor fired back…
‘’This money has to be affecting the budget you’re working on,’’ Hawker told members of the city council’s Public Works Committee. But Mayor Williams disagrees…
The comments were made during a Public Works Committee meeting of the Danville City Council Tuesday evening. Hawker added he has heard Mayor Williams is still trying to get the money, and he commended Williams for those efforts.
