As Illinois lawmakers debate whether to raise the minimum wage, OSF HealthCare has announced it will raise its minimum wage.
Effective February 24, 2019, OSF workers who are making the minimum wage will see a $2 per hour boost in wages to $12 an hour. The majority of those who will benefit from the wage increase are food service, housekeeping and gift shop employees, along with members of the guest services team.
Currently the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. The minimum wage in Illinois is $8.25 an hour.
‘’We raised our minimum wage to $10 an hour in 2015 and are raising it again because it is the right thing to do,’’ said Sister Judith Ann Duvall, O.S.F., Major Superior and Chairperson of the OSF HealthCare Board. ‘’Our Sisters deeply value our Mission Partners and the wonderful service they bring to our Sacred Ministry,’’ she added.
Bob Sehring, CEO, OSF HealthCare added that by increasing the minimum wage, OSF will be able to attract and retain new Mission Partners.
OSF HealthCare employs nearly 21,000 Mission Partners (employees) in 126 locations – including its hospitals in Danville and Champaign-Urbana.
