Construction is complete on the Danville Public Library’s recent renovations, and the library is inviting the public to an open house on Saturday, March 9, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the library.
The open house will begin at 1:00 p.m., and the ribbon cuttings will begin at 2:00 p.m. The first ribbon cutting will be for the new Gill M. Garman Large Group Study Room on the second floor. Following will be the dedication of Brittany’s Corner on the first floor and another ribbon cutting for the new Howard G. Rutan Teen Zone.
Renovations include a new Teen Zone, a new large group study room, LED lighting throughout the library, additional soundproofing for the existing study rooms, and a new facilities office and storage room.A cozy “reading corner” also has been created on the first floor.
A couple of the renovated areas have been named for local residents. The large group study room is named in memory of Gill M. Garman, a local attorney who served on the board of the Danville Library Foundation for 19 years. The room was funded by a private donation made in memory of Mr. Garman. The new Teen Zone has been named for Howard G. Rutan, who served as a military math teacher and supported the original Teen Space. Funds from his bequest to the library were used for the construction of the new Teen Zone. A donation from Don and Deanna Witzel/McDonald’s made in memory of Brittany Smith, an employee of McDonald’s and a lifelong reader and library user, purchased the furnishings for Brittany’s Corner.
The open house is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available at this event. The library is located at 319 N. Vermilion St. in Danville.
