It may be February, but a sure sign that spring is coming is when sap is collected from the Maple trees at Forest Glen Preserve east of Westville. And on Thursday 90 third-graders from the Oakwood Unit 76 School District got an up close look at how the sap is turned into syrup.

Biggs-Warner adds the general public is invited to stop by and see the process on days the process is underway….

The annual Maple Syrup Open House will be held Sunday, March 17th, at Forest Glen. A highlight of the day is a pancake and sausage dinner.
Biggs – Warner says so far the park staff has been able to produce 11 gallons of syrup from the sap at Forest Glen. She says it is unknown at this time whether any of the famous Forest Glen Maple Syrup will be available to purchase this year.
