The National Weather Service, in conjunction with the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency, has scheduled an upcoming class for weather spotters. The class will be April 10th from 6:30 until 9:00 p.m., at the Tilton Community Center on West 5th Street.
The class is taught by meteorologists from the National Weather Service Office in Lincoln. It is held to allow experienced weather spotters to maintain their qualification as a Certified Weather Spotter. The class is open to anyone, though, who would like to get some severe weather training.
Severe Weather Manager Rick Harper from the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency says the weather spotters play a vital role in keeping communities safe. The National Weather Service uses information provided by storm spotters on occasion to decide if a warning should be issued.
