Danville District 118 students who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors next year are being given the opportunity to participate in a week-long engineering camp at the University of Illinois. District 118 Superintendent Alicia Geddis announced plans for the camp at Wednesday evening’s school board meeting. She says the school district will use Title I Funds to pay for the camp, so there will be no charge to participating families. The school district will even provide the transportation.
‘’This is huge and it’s free to parents,’’ said Dr. Geddis at the meeting. She says in the future District 118 is exploring other summer residential camps in areas such as Education, Art, Music, and Culinary opportunities.
Also during the meeting the board tabled a discussion on a proposed redevelopment packet for Cannon Elementary School. Board President Bill Dobbles said some questions have come up which need to be reviewed before proceeding. Board members were told earlier this month that the City of Danville was developing a request for proposal packet that could be sent to potential developers.
Cannon School was closed in January of 2016 after some severe flooding occurred there over the Christmas and New Year’s break.
It was also announced at the school board meeting that centralized registration for the 2019-2020 school year will be June 12th through 14th at the David S. Palmer Arena. This year Pre-K and Northeast Elementary Magnet School will also participate.
