A new Save-A-Lot grocery store is set to open Wednesday morning (March 13, 2019) in downtown Danville. The business is moving from its North Bowman Avenue location which will be closed permanently…effective Saturday night (March 9th).
Larry Tobias, President and CEO of Kirby Foods, says he is excited about the move to Towne Centre. The new store will be filling half of the spot where a County Market Store was previously located.
‘’It’s a great central location and we will be able to better serve the entire community,’’ said Tobias during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News. ‘’It will be a great store with kind of a whole new concept,’’ added Tobias. He noted the new store has expanded produce and meat departments. And it also includes a deli with fresh meals and sandwiches. Tobias said the deli will hopefully attract some of the lunch crowd from nearby locations, such as the courthouse and banks.
The new Save-A-Lot was originally scheduled to open in mid-October, but Tobias says during the construction process crews discovered some asbestos which had to be remediated. But now Tobias says he is excited about Wednesday’s opening.
Another Downtown Danville business also recently opened. Downtown Danville Event Center is the name of the business located at 38 North Vermilion Street. The building has a variety of uses including hosting business luncheons and meetings or public and private parties. The facility seats 125 and can be rented. The rental fee depends on the needs of the user(s)…and includes a commercial kitchen. And the renter can use their own caterer or use the in-house caterer. The commercial kitchen can also be rented by the hour and will also be available for pop-up restaurant use.
Sunday brunch buffets are being held there on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month with food prepared by Chef Mary Lewis. Some holiday buffets are also planned. Lewis owns the facility.
