Members of the Danville City Council last night delayed naming a new interim Public Safety Director. The appointment to name a replacement for retiring Director Larry Thomason was delayed after the council met in a short closed session. Acting Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said some council members wanted more time to study the appointment after they received his recommendation on who should get the position earlier in the day. Thomason leaves March 29th and council action on an interim replacement is not scheduled until four days later.
Public Safety Director Thomason was made an honorary member of the ‘Three Kings of Peace’ during the meeting. The Three Kings of Peace presented Thomason a vest and thanked him for working with them in recent years.
Director Thomason says the Three Kings of Peace have played a key role in the community trying to reduce violence…
Ed Butler, President of the Danville Branch of the NAACP, Reverend Frank McCullough, and Reverend R. J. Davis are the Three Kings of Peace. They have led peace marches through high-crime areas of Danville in the past and also work with local schools. And as he prepares to retire on March 29th, Thomason is pleased with his accomplishments….
The Council is now expected to name a new interim Public Safety Director at its April 2nd meeting. It is the same meeting where action is expected to be taken on ways to raise new revenues. Those proposals were pulled from the agenda at the beginning of last night’s meeting.
