Work being done on the restoration of the historic Fischer Theatre continues to be seen as the driving force behind growing excitement in Danville’s downtown area. Amy Hussman-McKinley of Senior Source and Ken Gentrup, owner of Glory Daze Antiques & Uniques, talked about the buzz on WDAN Radio’s News Makers program.
Hussman-McKinley says ‘First Friday’ events in the downtown area have added to the excitement….
McKinley is concerned the Danville City Council is considering cutting a position in the Public Affairs area which involves the job of the woman in charge of First Friday events.
Gentrup’s business is located near the Fischer Theatre…
Hussman-McKinley says she thinks the Fischer project is ‘’really going to create the sizzle that we need – and it’s just so exciting that that’s kind of driving a lot of this energy and excitement.’’
Gentrup has purchased several downtown buildings. And work is being done on others. Plans are to turn a former pharmacy site into an ice cream parlor in one of the buildings at North and Vermilion Streets…but the permit process for the business is still pending.
