For the second time in a week…an Illinois State Trooper has been killed in the line-of-duty. ‘’It is with profound heartache and unfathomable sadness that we inform you of the death of another fallen trooper,’’ said Illinois State Police Acting Director Brendan Kelly Saturday morning (March 30, 2019).
Thirty-six year old Trooper Gerald Ellis died after his squad car was struck by a wrong-way driver, who was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 in Green Oaks. (The location is in northern Illinois.)
Trooper Ellis was an 11-year-veteran of the Illinois State Police District 15 in Downers Grove. ”Trooper Ellis laid down his life while protecting the citizens of this state,” added Director Kelly.
Saturday morning’s tragedy comes as State Police were already mourning the death of Trooper Brooke Jones-Story. She died on Thursday (March 28, 2019) when a semi tractor trailer struck her squad car and another semi in Stephenson County.
