Danville Mayor Rickey Williams says now that the word ‘interim’ has been removed from his job title there is important work ahead….
Williams handily defeated three other candidates Tuesday in retaining the mayor’s post. After the vote, Alderman Steve Nichols told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that he wishes Williams well. ‘’We all need to pull together to take care of city business,’’ said Nichols.
Mayoral candidate Donald Crews noted the low voter turnout (26%), adding, ‘’the low voter turnout plagued us.’’ Crews added he didn’t get his campaign message out there strong enough. ‘’That falls on me,’’ added Crews.
James ‘Mouse’ McMahon said Mayor Williams has his support – 100-percent. ‘’I’d like to congratulate Rickey,’’ said McMahon. But McMahon added, ‘’I hope that he remembers that 58-percent of the people did not vote for him. I hope when he governs he remembers that,’’ said McMahon.
Mayor Williams hopes the city council will unite on issues – such as the new budget – now that the election is over….
Williams added he had hoped he would do well in Tuesday’s vote, but he says the results were ‘’phenomenal’’.
