The owners of Collins Tower in downtown Danville say they are working with the Illinois State Historic Preservation Agency on plans to renovate the building. In a statement released over the weekend, the owners said no work or demolition may begin until things are approved by that office. But Danville Mayor Rickey Williams told VermilionCountyFirst.com News….
Williams added Jeri Collins had contacted his office, though, for a meeting to discuss things on Tuesday (April 9, 2019).
Mayor Williams says the city is demanding immediate action be taken because of concerns about the building’s condition…
The Collins say they are working with several specialists – each doing their own part and in combination ‘’to attain the same goal’’. But Mayor Williams is tired of waiting for action…
The Collins said earlier that they planned to turn the building into living space on all floors, but with a restaurant and some retail space on the ground level. They also said that having the building on the National Registry of Historic Places should help attract investors.
