Indiana lawmakers have likely dashed any chances for a Danville casino. Just before completing their legislative session Wednesday, the Indiana General Assembly approved a comprehensive gaming bill which includes plans for a Terre Haute casino. The bill, which also allows a new casino in Gary, Indiana, now heads to the governor’s desk.
The bill would also legalize sports betting in Indiana to start as early as this fall. And horse track casinos in Shelbyville and Anderson would be allowed to have live dealers at table games starting January 1st of next year. Legislation approved earlier was going to allow the table games, but not until mid-2021.
Efforts have been underway for years to bring a casino to Danville (Illinois)…but legislation which would allow it has been repeatedly stalled in Springfield. Supporters have said a Danville casino would bring an economic boost to the community, but opponents have claimed it would have people gambling who cannot afford it.
