New unemployment numbers are out for our area, but they show very little change. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says Vermilion County’s jobless rate for March was 6.3 percent. The figure is unchanged from February. And Champaign County’s unemployment rate remained at 4.7 percent last month.
Danville’s unemployment rate rose slightly during March, climbing from 5.9 to 6.4 percent. But the new report says Vermilion County gained 200 jobs over the past year in the Retail category, 100 in the Professional and Business Services Category, and 100 more jobs in the Wholesale Trade area. The number of Vermilion County jobs declined by 100 since this time a year ago in the Mining & Construction category.
In Edgar County the unemployment rate of 5.5 percent last month was up slightly from the 5.4 percent figure the previous month. Iroquois County’s unemployment rate dropped a half-percent to 5.5 percent in March.
