Murder charges have been filed in connection with Thursday’s shooting death of a local man. Twenty-one-year-old Denzel Aldridge is charged with five counts of First Degree Murder and three of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon in Wednesday’s shooting of Roosevelt Anderson Jr. in the 900 block of Redden Court. Judge Karen Wall set bond for Aldridge at $5-million dollars. Police took Aldridge into custody Wednesday night (April 24, 2019) on a parole hold, and also charged him with aggravated battery with a firearm regarding the shooting of Anderson.
Aldridge (shown here) was still being held at the Public Safety Building on Thursday when Anderson died at Carle Hospital in Urbana. Danville Police Commander Joshua Webb had noted that since Aldridge was already in custody prior to Anderson’s death it would be up to the Vermilion County State’s Attorney to decide whether to amend the charges. Those charges were amended Friday to include the Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon counts.
Webb also says Danville Police are still seeking to identify other men who were involved in the physical altercation with Anderson.
At this time police say there is no indication the Anderson shooting is related to the shooting death of 33-year-old Cedric Halthon of Danville Tuesday night. Halthon was shot in the area of the 800 block of Sherman Street.
Anyone who has any information regarding these crimes is asked to call Danville Police at (217) 431-2250. Or you can call Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
