The Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending approval of a solar energy array next to Aqua Illinois Water Company’s treatment plant. Aqua Area Manager Bob Ervin told the Commission the company has agreed to move the solar panels a little to the west because of some neighbor’s concerns….
But some neighbors along Logan Avenue and Westwood Place are not satisfied and say the project would de-value their property. Bill Garrison and his wife are long-time residents on Westwood…..
Garrison says they have enjoyed the woods behind their home, adding it’s a great quiet residential area. He added they appreciate the fact that Aqua let them know early about the company’s intensions, and also appreciate the plans to move the solar array further away from the streets.
Another resident of Westwood Place…Lynn McLinden, says the project buts up against 15 to 17 properties that would be adversely affected.
The Commission voted 4-1 in favor of recommending the Special Use Permit be approved. The final decision is up to the Danville City Council. Sol Systems LLC. would erect the system and Aqua would buy and use the power it generates. Aqua Area Manager Bob Ervin says it would save the company an estimated $100-thousand dollars a year….
The Commission also recommended approval of a Special Use Permit for a specialty toys and games store at 3124 North Vermilion Street. If approved by the Danville City Council the new toy store is projected to open on August 1st in the existing building on that site. It is the building where Radio Shack was previously located.
