Chances for a Danville casino are still alive as the result of action taken by lawmakers on Monday. Representative Robert Rita’s proposal to allow six new casinos in the state has been linked to a plan that would legalize sports betting in Illinois. Rita said it’s the common denominator that could bring it all together.
The Executive Committee of the Illinois House gave Representative Rita permission to proceed with the technical change to the sports betting bill.
The legislation being proposed would allow for a land-based casino in Chicago….and up to five riverboat casinos…including one in Danville. Others would be in Lake County, Chicago’s south suburbs, Williamson County (in southern Illinois) and Rockford.
Some supporters of efforts to get more casinos in Illinois say they are optimistic is will finally occur. But discussions have been underway for more than 10 years to expand the number of casinos in the state.
