The Illinois House of Representatives has approved a bill mandating companies put up financial assurances to pay for the future closure and maintenance of coal ash storage pits. State Representative Mike Marron argued the bill is critical to Vermilion County….
The bill was sponsored by Senator Scott Bennett in the Senate. It orders the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to develop rules regarding the closure of coal ash repositories and creates a process for public input on closure plans which must be filed with the state.
