A sentencing hearing that was scheduled Wednesday for a Danville man convicted in a double murder was delayed. Thirty-year-old Glenn Torres was to be sentenced after he was found guilty by a jury in April in the August 2015 shooting deaths of two people.
The bodies of 28-year-old Zarra Strickland and 29-year-old Theodore Hill were found dumped in the yard of a vacant home west of Danville.
Judge Nancy Fahey rescheduled the sentencing hearing for July after she received a document from Torres claiming ineffective assistance from his legal counsel. Torres also filed a motion seeking a new trial. Judge Fahey appointed a new attorney to represent Torres on the issue of ineffective counsel only. Two local attorneys represented Torres during his trial. A team of special prosecutors handled the case for the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Torres was convicted on first-degree murder charges in the deaths of Hill and Strickland on April 23rd. The defense had contended that Torres was with his young daughter in Indianapolis at the time of the killings.
