The new Director of the VA Illiana Health Care System is on the job in Danville. And Shawn Bransky is excited about it…
“I could not be more pleased with what I’ve seen here with the staff,” said Bransky during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News. “So all of our 1400 staff members are fully-engaged, and we are all here for the same thing which is caring for our Veterans. I’ve been in the VA for five years. I’ve had the opportunity to work now – this will be my third VA Medical Center. And it is truly a privilege and a pleasure to be here in Danville.”
Wednesday was Bransky’s second day at his new job. He is a retired Air Force Veteran whose most recent job was serving as Deputy Director for the Phoenix VA Health Care System in Phoenix, Arizona.
Director Bransky and other VA representatives hosted a meeting Wednesday at Danville Area Community College to explain the new VA Community Care Program which goes into effect June 6th. Bransky says the new program gives some Veterans a choice….
“All of our Veterans that are in rural areas that travel in distances greater than sixty minutes for specialty care, or thirty minutes for primary care and mental health, they’re going to have the option of going and getting their care in the community,” said Bransky.
When asked what that means to the Danville VA, Bransky noted….
“For us, in Danville, what that really means is it puts more of an emphasis. We’ve always provided exceptional health care here in Danville,” said Bransky, ”and we always will. We’re going to double-down and make sure that we put additional emphasis and attention on our customer service, to make sure that our Veterans want to come to the Danville VA and that they choose Danville for their health care.”
Bransky says it remains to be seen how the change might impact treatment programs offered in Danville. Director Bransky says the local VA has been gearing up for the change for the past year.
