Danville City Council members have voted to revise residency requirements for city employees. Mayor Rickey Williams explains the new policy….
(‘’The ordinance passed allows city employees that aren’t bound by a union contract to live within five miles of the city of Danville,’’ said the Mayor. ‘’They also must pay a fee commensurate to what the Danville average portion of the property tax would be, as well as the Public Safety Pension Fee as well.’’)
The Mayor says the total would be about $575 to $600 that would be paid by employees who choose to live outside the city of Danville – but only applies to those employees not bound by a union contract. Alderman Rick Strebing strongly feels that all city employees should live within the city limits, so he voted against the change.
A proposal to require department heads appointed by the Mayor to live inside the Danville City limits was rejected. So they will also be allowed to live up to five miles outside the city.
Alderwoman Sharon McMahon was one of the council members who spoke out on the issue….
Alderman Mike Puhr thinks department heads should be allowed to live up to five miles outside of Danville….
Alderwoman Sharon Pickering proposed extending the limit to ten miles outside the city….
But Pickering was only able to get the support of Aldermen Steve Foster and Bob Iverson in her quest for a ten mile limit. Nine other council members voted against it.
