Independence Day is just over a week away and the Danville Boat Club has announced it will be hosting ‘Thunder Over Lake Vermilion’ to celebrate the 4th. The Boat Club’s celebration will take place on Saturday, July 6th. The rain date is Sunday, July 7th.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. There is a $5 charge for a wristband that will admit you to the Danville Boat Club grounds along Lake Vermilion. Children under 10 are admitted free.
Food will be served from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. in the Danville Boat Club’s Dining Room. Food and drinks will also be available at the club’s boat house near the lake.
Fireworks are scheduled for 9:30 p.m. (Saturday, July 6th), and the show will include over 600 aerial shells plus ground displays involving over 2700 shots from a barge in Lake Vermilion. The fireworks are funded by donations from local business owners and Boat Club members.
Boaters are reminded that Lake Vermilion is at no wake speed after dark, and it will be enforced. Boaters are also reminded they should keep well clear (over 100 feet) from the unmanned Aqua Illinois barge which will have fireworks on board igniting several times without warning that night (Saturday, July 6th.)
