Area farmers are keeping a close eye on upcoming talks between President Donald Trump and China’s leader in hopes it will ease some strained trade relations. Lawrence Parks, President of the Parks Companies here in Vermilion County, is another in the ag industry watching the developments…
Parks (shown in the photo above) talked with VermilionCountyFirst.com News as he stopped by two of the barns his company owns near Fithian on Wednesday. He noted China’s pork production has been rattled by disease….
Parks quickly added that disease has not adversely affected pork production in the United States….
The two barns which were the site of a legislative tour near Fithian Wednesday morning involved an investment of about $8-10 million dollars for the buildings, equipment and hogs. The investment has brought more than $70-thousand dollars a year in new local tax revenues to Vermilion County, including over $42-thousand dollars annually going to the Oakwood School District. And the Parks family has two similar barns near the ones at Fithian and another operation near Rankin.
