A nearly 19 hour long standoff has ended with the arrest of a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Fulton County, Illinois Sheriff’s Deputy.
Illinois State Police say 42-year-old Nathan Woodring of Avon surrendered to police early today. Woodring is now being held pending the filing of formal charges in the shooting death of Tuesday of 39-year-old Deputy Troy Chisum.
Sheriff Jeff Standard says multiple shots had been fired after four sheriff’s deputies responded to a battery and disturbance call at a rural Avon home.
‘’This is the second time this year the Illinois State Police has safely apprehended an alleged cop killer,’’ said Acting State Police Director Brendan Kelly. ‘’Once again, the men and women of the Illinois State Police displayed exceptional professionalism, patience and persistence as they worked side by side with our brothers and sisters through another dark and difficult moment,’’ added Director Kelly.
