Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy has announced she is running for re-election next year. Lacy says she has built a strong office of talented prosecutors and staff that have successfully prosecuted murderers and violent sexual criminals.
‘’One of the reasons that I have been successful is because I have also worked in the DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Cook County court systems,’’ said Lacy. ‘’I understand the law and the defense tactics used. I understand urban crime and gangs and I am able to bring that wealth of knowledge and experience to the citizens of Vermilion County,’’ added Lacy.
Lacy told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that since she was elected in November of 2016 she has brought several things to the State’s Attorney’s Office, including:
- Reorganization of the office to take advantage of each prosecutor’s strengths;
- Defendants are no longer being released from the jail to avoid violation of the 120-day speedy trial act;
- Rebuilt strong relationships with the community, police, probation, Illinois Attorney General’s Office, and the United States Attorney’s Office to protect our community;
- Assisted in qualifying the first Danville Police Officer as a gang expert;
- Obtained a $90,000 federal grant to hire additional victim assistance advocates to serve the residents of Vermilion County;
- Successfully implemented a full time Grand Jury system where Vermilion County citizens determine what felony cases are indicted.
‘’Those individuals who prey on our community will not be tolerated, and my office will do everything in our power to ensure those that do are brought to justice and our community is kept safe,’’ added Lacy.
