Some Danville Area Community College students got a chance Friday (September 20, 2019) to meet the people who are backing them financially. Danville Area Community College President Stephen Nacco described hundreds of people attending the DACC Foundation Honors Program Friday as being ‘’like a hall of fame of just generous, caring people.’’ He was describing the people whose donations allowed the Foundation to award 511 scholarships this year totaling nearly $672-thousand dollars. The number is up from last year when the DACC Foundation awarded 488 scholarships valued at over $620-thousand dollars.
Tom Chamberlain, President of the Danville Area Community College Foundation, told the donors that they are making a difference in student lives. ‘’And on behalf of everyone,’’ said Chamberlain, ‘’I thank you.’’ He added that many of the donors on hand for the Honors program had received scholarships themselves back when they were in college. ‘’These donors know why college education is so important,’’ added Chamberlain.
The Foundation’s Annual Honors Program celebrates the achievements of the scholarship recipients at DACC and the generosity of the donors who support them. It gives the students an opportunity to meet the donors in person who are supporting their college education.
