Mt. Carmel Marching Band Director Kim Mandrell reminded band members Saturday evening that ‘’this is what you’ve worked for all this time.’’ She was addressing her band on the Danville High School practice field minutes before the band performed in front of a large crowd at Ned Whitesell Field.
Mandrell says Mt. Carmel’s marching band started coming to the Viking Invitational Marching Band Contest at Danville High School thirteen years ago. ‘’It’s a good competition,’’ said Mandrell. And she says it means a lot to her, personally. She has been coming to the competition all those years. [In the photo members of the Mt. There were eleven bands involved in Saturday’s competition. Hoopeston Area High School’s band was one of them. Bismarck-Henning, Rossville-Alvin, Urbana, Champaign Central and Watseka were other area bands that participated. They were all judged in music and marching. But there were other awards, too, including best music, best visual effects, and best color guard and drum majors.
