It is the time of year for children to have fun with Halloween coming. And in Danville hundreds of children are having fun at the St. James United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch.
Cheryl Clapp is the Patch Coordinator and says as the pre-school through first grade children arrive they hear a story about pumpkins…
{‘’They’ll go inside where we have a cookie table set up where they get to decorate a pumpkin-shaped cookie. …They get to eat that as long as they’re not allergic and they have apple juice. Then they get to come outside and we have a game area set up where they play little pumpkin games. We have a face painting area where they get a pumpkin painted on their face, or their hand,’’ added Clapp. ‘’We take a picture of the group at a haystack area, and then each student gets to take a pumpkin home with them that they can carry in their book bag.’’}
Clapp helped start the event 16 years ago as a fundraiser for the church youth group. And did she think then that it would last this long?
{‘’You know, we had no idea, we’re just thankful and blessed that it is still going. It take a lot of work and it takes a lot of volunteers to make it a success,’’ said Clapp during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.}

About 800 pre-kindergarten through first grade students are expected to attend the event this week. Clapp says one group visiting this week is a ‘’bibs group’’ – some mothers with their babies. The cost is $3 per participant.
