Vermilion County’s unemployment rate has hit an all-time low for the second month in a row! The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the county’s jobless rate fell from 5.2 to 5.0 percent during September. Danville’s unemployment rate also fell – dropping from 6.0 in August to 5.7 percent in September. The numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
The new report shows Vermilion County’s non-farm employment rose by 100 from where it stood a year ago. In the Financial Services category Vermilion County gained 200 jobs since September of 2018. And the county also gained 100 jobs in the Professional and Business Services category. There were 100 fewer people working in the Retail Trade category last month than a year ago. And the county also lost 100 jobs in the Education & Health Services category according to the report.
In Champaign County, the 3.5 percent unemployment rate in September was down from 4.2 percent a year ago. In Iroquois County the September jobless rate of 3.7 percent was up slightly from its August figure of 3.6 percent. Edgar County’s unemployment rate also rose slightly – from 3.8 to 3.9 percent.
The unemployment rate decreased in twelve Illinois metropolitan areas since September of 2018…increased in one…and was unchanged in another according to preliminary data. The report was released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
