State Senator Scott Bennett is being recognized for his support of the environment. Prairie Rivers Network presented the Senator its Outstanding Public Servant Award.
Senator Bennett’s Coal Ash Prevention Act was signed into law this summer. He championed the legislation regarding the threat the state is facing from the hazards of coal ash pollution. Prairie Rivers Network was a key player in getting the legislature to adopt coal ash legislation to help protect the state’s rivers, lakes and streams.
Senator Bennett has been particularly concerned about the coal ash stored in pits near an abandoned power plant north of Kickapoo State Park which is threatening the National Scenic Middle Fork River.
‘’This award is a testament to the work we have accomplished together,’’ Senator Bennett told those attending the Prairie Rivers Network banquet. And Bennett added he looks forward to continuing to work with Prairie Rivers Network on issues to protect the environment.
